I have really oily skin especially during mid day 1-3 pm. It’s even worse when I have gel in my hair and it’s hot/humid outside. What can I do/put on my face to go all day without having an oily face. I have classes tommorow from 8-4 and don’t want a shiny oily face. What can dry my face up without causing more oil and acne.

How Natural Acne Treatments Hit the Spot and Clear an Oily Face!
In many walks of life natural treatments seem to be gaining popularity, many people are again coming to realize that, far from being ‘special’ humans are in fact part of the natural world. Because of that natural remedies do work, and in many cases will work better than man made solutions.
What is important is that natural acne treatments must target the right things, the underlying causes of problems. There is a strong biological reason that people get spots, and it is this reason that needs to be addressed, whilst considering all the other factors as well. Which is why, before we examine natural acne treatments and how they work we first need to understand the science behind spots.
Why An Oily Face Leads to Spots
The formation of spots has to do with the sebaceous glands. These are tiny glands that sit just below the layer of your skin all over your body. They produce a natural substance called sebum that is used by your body to keep your skin healthy and supple.
But factors such as stress, hormone imbalances or certain drugs can cause the body to produce more sebum than it needs to. This oily substance then builds up in the pores of the skin giving rise to an oily face and causing spots, blackheads and other nasties to form.
Of course this is not the only reason for oily face and spots. Outside oily substances have a similar effect. Various make ups and moisturisers especially can cause similar, non-biological build ups of oily patches.
How Natural Acne Treatments Work
So it is this build up of oil that needs to be addressed, as that is what causes the spots in the first place. The problem with conventional medicinal ways of doing this is that the pills aim to stop sebum producing. While this often does stop spots and remedies oily skin it can also cause the skin to become dry, flaky and painful – flaking skin and cracked lips is as painful and as unsightly as the acne spots that the medicine is trying to prevent.
Which is why natural acne treatments often work better. There are two concepts behind two different types of natural acne treatment.
The first focuses on getting the balance of minerals and nutrients right… giving you the right balance so that your sebaceous glands don’t produce too much sebum. This can work in some people, and work very well, but if the problem comes as a result of medicine (steroids, birth control pills etc) then it is largely ineffective.
The second process works on targeting the oily patches and normalising them before spots can form. Usually this type of natural acne treatment comes in the form of a scrub or a facial mask. The facial mask removes some (but importantly, not all) of the sebum and oil, neutralising the oily face but allowing the skin to breathe and retain elasticity.

I have extremely oily skin and I use an array of products based on how oily and dirty my face is. I am a HUGE fan of Aveeno and love their entire line of products (with green caps) for oily skinned individuals. I have the foaming cleanser which is awesome in the mornings. The small granulated one for scrubbing out dirt. The cream one for “relaxing” my face. Try out different products and brands to see what suits you best. Some people like Neutrogena and Biore but neither of those worked really well for me. What works for me and others might not work for you – everyone’s skin (though oily) is still different.

I have read some similiar questions that dealt with women’s oily skin, but as a guy, I am not going to wear foundation. I used to have severe acne as a teenager, but now that I’m older, the acne has dropped considerably to more of a mild form. However, my skin is grossly oily and I have not been able to find something that controls it all day. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been contemplating the Proactiv solution, but if something exists cheaper and just as effective, I would much rather go that route. Thanks in advance for all the help!

Have you gone to see a dermatologist? It might be that you need something stronger than those over-the-counter medicines/cleansers. If not, then just try different ones until you find the one that works best for you!

I have the same skin as you. I’ve tried Mary Kay, BeautiControl, Biore, Neutrogena, ProActive, and Clinique. Clinique and BeautiControl have been my favorites.
One tip that the girl at the Clinique counter gave me is that you always should remove your makeup first. Don’t wash your face with the cleanser until you have washed your face with soap or makeup remover, otherwise you’re just scrubbing dirt into your face. You can get Clinique from any Department store (Belk, Dillards, etc)… hope that helps! 🙂

I have VERY oily skin and it annoys the heck out of me. I break out A TON and always seem to have acne (whether I cover it up with cover up or whatever doesn’t matter. I have recently been looking for a face wash that I can use for my oily skin that will help get rid of my acne. In the past I have not been very diligent with my face cleansers, but I am willing to use it every night if I have to. What, in your expiriences have you found to be the best for oily skin? Thanks!

Look for any brands that specially make acne products (I like clean and clear). Neutrogena is
also good. Look for products that say “deep cleaning”, but if you have sensitive skin, make sure it is formulated for sensitive skin. I recommend neutrogena deep clean oil free gentle scrub or clean & clear foaming facial oil free cleanser. Removing all makeup is also key to clearing up skin. I also love Queen Helene mint julep masque for a few nights a week. It is very effective and you feel very fresh after using it. I love it! Good luck!!
