How to get rid of acne/prevent it?

Question by princess96: How to get rid of acne/prevent it?
I have been struggling with acne for a few years now it started off really mild like a few pimples here and there. It then turned into more pimples all over my forehead, nose and chin. Now there’s pimples on my forehead sometimes on my nose and puffy redness on my chin it is very uncomfortable not to mention its not at all attractive.. I have tried quite a few products and remedies some work better then others but I would like to know if there is anything I haven’t tried yet. My skin type is oily all on my T zone yet when I use certain products my skin gets dry, flakey and leather like. I need a good moisturizer for oily skin (which seems odd) and an acne cleanser or medication to help get rid of pimples and prevent them. I am allergic to benzyl peroxide unfortunately, because that is in a lot of acne products and has helped many people… My skin I guess is very sensitive especially to that medication. Can anyone suggest anything for me? Thanks in advance for those who answer. I will give stars to the best answer.

  1. You definitely need to got o the doctors, I went when I had bad acne and they gave me some strong cream to help dry out the spots. Also I have found that if you use antibacterial soap in the shower on the affected areas it really dries them out and I have noticed a big difference since I have started doing this! If you live. In the UK I would recommend Dettol soap, if you live in the USA I recommend Dial soap.

  2. How old are you? I’m going to operate under the assumption you are a teen. As far as over the counter treatments going, if you are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, washing your face gently with salicylic acid is your best bet. Also, don’t pop pimples, a pimple is an infection of hair follicle and popping them not only spreads and irritates the infection, the bacteria on your hands significantly intensifies the infection. Certain types of make-up can also worsen acne, look for the word ‘noncomedogenic’ on the label, this means that this certain brand of make-up won’t clog your pores and will prevent production of more acne.
The best thing you can do for bad acne, in my opinion is to see a dermatologist, a skin doctor, they typically will examine your skin and create a treatment plan that can often eliminate your acne completely. Your dermatologist will likely prescribe you a type of antibiotic called a tetracycline. This class of medication kills bacteria thus reducing acne at it’s roots. These medications must be taken bi-daily and to render them effective you cannot consume dairy products.
    I hope this helps

  3. I am not a doctor so I want to be clear this is not medical advice, you should always check with your doctor or pharmacist when trying new medications.

Now I will share my experience.

I am not sure of your age and it does not matter, however if you are in your teens and experiencing acne try to realize even though it is frustrating, it is very common, and as you get older it will probably get better by it’s self.
Here is a short video that explains how a pimple is formed. After the video we will discuss possible treatments.

I have had good results from the following.
Covering your face with a warm wet wash cloth for at least 5 minutes before bed time each night, this will help open poors. Do not scrub the skin with the cloth, You may need to reheat the cloth a couple of times. Blot dry with a clean towel.
Then use a cotton ball to apply Witch Hazel to the areas where you tend to break out the most. Witch Hazel can be found in most drug stores in the same place as rubbing alcohol and Hydrogen peroxide. It is an inexpensive mild astringent that has some
    anti-inflammatory properties.
Also you can try taking benadryl (diphenhydramine) before bed each night. benadryl is an antihistamine. Histamine is made by the body and is part of the immune system. Histamine is responsible for part of the allergy response of the body, which includes inflammation and swelling, itching, and general irritation.
    So to recap,
Steaming the face nightly with a warm cloth.
    Application of Witch Hazel astringent.
Taking a diphenhydramine brand name Benadryl before bed.
Try it for a week and if your symptoms do not improve see your doctor and ask if antibiotics of some other treatment might be a possible treatment.
Make sure that you are drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Skin elasticity and the consistency of body fluids are effected by whether you are well hydrated or not. Also drinking water helps the body get rid of bacteria.
