Efficient Caring for Oily Skin

Oily skin is caused by over-productive sebaceous glands. There is an advantage and a disadvantage in having an oily skin. The advantage of it is that when you have an oily face, the wrinkles and fine lines will generate slower and skin discoloration can be prevented. However, the disadvantage of having an oily skin is that you will have frequent breakouts, greasy-looking face as well as large pores.

There are some methods that you can do so that the downsides of oily skin can be prevented. Follow the tips below for a healthier and oil-free skin:

1. Cleanse your face twice each day: once in the morning and another during the night before going to bed. Frequent cleansing of the face will dry up your skin causing more breakouts to occur. Use a mild soap and clean water in washing your face. Avoid using soaps that contain too much fragrance and other chemicals. They will only irritate your skin more.

2. Find a product that works well for you and stick to it. Others who have oily skin with lots of acne is caused by frequent changing of facial cleansers and soaps used on their face.

3. Try to shower or bathe in lukewarm water rather than hot water. Hot water bathing and showering will strip the moisture of the skin causing it to dry. On the other hand, using cold water can cause shock into the skin. Tepid water is the best one to use.

4. Do not use cleansers that tend to over dry your skin. Dryness of the skin will only result to more oiliness.

5. Use skin care products such as make-ups, sunscreens and moisturizers that are oil-free so that they won’t clog into your pores.

6. Consult your dermatologist about your skin condition and ask if she can recommend some retinoids which is a drug that helps reduce the production of oil from your oil glands.

7. Take note of the changes in your hormones, sensitivity to fatty foods and heat. These can sometimes be the cause of an oily and acne-prone skin.

Some experts may say that your skin oiliness and acne problems may be caused by hereditary factors, but it the end; it all depends on how you take care of your skin. Make sure that you eat healthy and nutritious foods that are good for your skin.

Fresh veggies and citrus fruits often do the trick.
