I have had oily skin since I can remember. I suffer from acne and have even been on Accutane two different times (and still break out mild-moderate to this day..sigh). My skin is always shining and I have to apply my Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil (which is wonderful, by the way) every half hour – hour just to mask my shine. I have tried many matifying primers, moisturizers, etc. but to no avail. FINALLY a moisturizer that goes on smooth, feels wonderful, and totally removes my shine!! From the first application, my shine was almost completely diminished. I honestly can’t believe it. A little goes a long way with this moisturizer, and a small pea size amount is all you need. I apply my Mineral Veil only once a day now..I really can’t believe it. This stuff is amazing. My only complaint is that it doesn’t contain any SPF. They really need to incorporate an SPF 20 or 30 in there and this product will be flawless. I still give it 5 stars.

Not for me, and I don’t understand “dry moisturizers”, April 21, 2011

This product is as advertised, and I’m sure there is a population for whom this is a godsend. It’s not for me, though. My skin gets oily during the day, and I’ve been looking for a moisturizer that does not exasperate the condition, at least not too much. This product goes too far in the “eliminating the oiliness” direction for me.

It left my face feeling at least as dry as it felt before I applied it. The “matifying” effect is one that I clearly didn’t think through before purchasing. It leaves a very thin film that reminds me of wax; and, in places, it actually formed tiny flakes on my face.

To be clear, I do not believe this is a bad product. This moisturizer performs as advertised. It’s just that this product does something that isn’t right for me.

I’m going to stick with moisturizers “for sensitive skin” for the time being. Even though I get a little oily, I prefer the soft, pliant feeling; and it makes me look younger. There is no harm in looking younger :-)

    1st AHAVA product I didn’t love, April 5, 2010

I was shocked when I applied this to my face. I’d been using a small sample of AHAVA Smoothing Moisturizer on my face for over a month and just loved it. It has normalized my oily t-zone skin, so next purchase I’m going back to Smoothing Moisturizer.

I don’t hate Matifying Moisturizer. I kept trying it and now have found a method of applying it that I can live with. When I first used this, it was on skin I’d just cleaned with AHAVA 3-in-1 Mineral Toning Cleanser (love it!). It has a completely different texture from what I was used to from my other AHAVA products. Now I use my Aveeno Agess Vitality and a vitamin c topical cream first and then apply the Matifying Moisturizer. It goes on much smoother and I get the benefit of it’s matifying properties. I haven’t used makeup over it yet, but I expect good results.

I might try the Matifying Toner with the Smoothing Moisturizer. I can live with this till my next purchase. It isn’t something I’ll send back, but I won’t buy it again.
