When Oily Skin Turns A Shiny Face Into Pimple Central It Is Time To Act

Article by Louise Forrest

Oily skin is defined as skin that is shiny, thick and often covered with unsightly blemishes. People with oily skin will do anything to reverse it and those without it seem to do everything to prevent it. Oily skin is often hereditary, so chances are if you have it you inherited it from a former family member.

That’s not to say that you cannot develop oily skin however. There are many people that develop oily skin through improper skin protection and just plain uncaring skin care. But how do you know when its time to act?

It’s time to combat oily skin as soon as it begins posing problems. There are millions of Americans that suffer from mild oily skin each year but there are many who suffer from severe cases as well. The problem is many people wait until their mild case of oily skin turns into a severe case before they actually do anything!

If you even suspect your skin leans toward the oily side then you should take precautions now to stay on the safe side. Oily skin will be more open to blemishes and pimples then dry skin (because it is more open) but there are many remedies that you can take for this. Just check out your local drugstore and you’ll be swimming in oily skin products and remedies.

Many people have a love/ hate relationship with oily skin, abet more hate then love for sure, but oily skin does have its benefits. Before you start heckling, oily skin comes with several advantages that work to a person’s benefit in the long haul; let me explain:

Oily skin is less prone to develop discolorations. Especially when a person in their teens or early 20s they have an increased tendency to have skin discolorations. The skin may have marks or spots of red rashes on the surface, which can be unsightly. A person with oily skin actually lowers their chances of developing these discolorations and in fact, they probably won’t have to worry about it at all.

Oily skin helps prevent wrinkles and lines in the skin. Younger people don’t tend to look this far into the future but the oily skin that they are suffering from right now will benefit them down the road because it will keep them wrinkle free longer. As the skin ages the chances of developing fine lines and wrinkles increases. It is a natural affect of the body but since oily skin has more moisture then non-oily skin the skin will fight wrinkles more efficiently.

Oily skin tans better then non-oily skin. Now this is a benefit that a person can appreciate no matter what age they are. Everyone loves a good tan and those with oily skin will have an increased ability to have a darker tan because their skin is more resistant to burning to turning bright red due to sun exposure. Someone with dry skin has a good chance of burning in the sun but someone with oily skin will just get tanner quicker.

Oily skin typically doesn’t develop freckles. Some people love freckles while others despise them. That said, oily skin is less prone to developing freckles and for most people this will be a positive thing. While they will have to live with a shiner complexion they will get away from freckles.

The most important consideration when dealing with oily skin is catching it before it gets too bad. Most people only have mild cases and they never go past that stage but if it does it can be much tougher to treat. Don’t get discouraged if you have oily skin because it does have its benefits (as listed above) but know that there are several cleansing products that you can take to lessen the affects of oily skin.

First Aid Kit for Oily Skin

Article by Ken Silvers

Oily skin actually has some advantages even though it might bother you. These tips will help you to have healthy and beautiful skin without having to use expensive, synthetic products that only give a temporary improvement.

Homemade recipes for glowing skin are very simple and work on all skin types. Here we will focus on oily skin. Oily skin isn’t a disease; it’s just your microscopic glands producing a little too much sebum (an oily/waxy matter). Because of this your skin tends to get shiny and oily, perhaps with black pores or acne.

Actually the oily skin is an effective protection and does not age as fast as dry skin. It therefore stays smooth longer. But it can also cause some discomfort and I hope these steps will provide ideas how you can prevent this.

1. Avoid drying out your skin

If you do your skin will defend itself by producing an even more fat (lipids) that causes your oily skin. Some people thus create a vicious circle–they fervently remove excess grease thereby stimulating their glands to produce even more sebum. An important step is therefore to avoid everything that will dry out your skin.

Be careful with soaps, toners and other products that could add to your problem.

Sometimes you want to get rid of your oily skin fast and you might be tempted to use a toner containing alcohol. This is not advisable! Instead, use a gentle toner that does not dry out your skin.

Try using facial masks with strawberries, lemon juice or grape juice. Egg whites are also great in masks to remove oily skin. Homemade recipes can create glowing skin.

Baths and showers can dry out your skin, so care should be taken not to make your skin feel threatened and thus stimulated to produce more oil on your skin. Try adding a little olive oil in your bath to compensate for this.

2. How to clean your skin

Wash your skin with a gentle soap. Make sure it has a low pH (4,4-5,5) and will not make your skin dry. They should contain some moisturizing ingredient.

Soaps containing lactic acid are a good choice because…

Lactic acid dissolves the fat on your skinIt feels like you are peeling as the acid dissolves blackheadsThe sour acid is antibacterial thus preventing acne3. Moisturize, Moisturize, MoisturizeDo not use fatty creams as they will clog your pores. That includes mineral oils and paraffin.

Instead, use a fat-free moisturizing cream or gel. If you moisturize your skin it will not think it’s under attack. On the contrary, your skin loves moisturizers. Using them often will get you a smooth skin and pores that stay open.

4. Aloe vera

Aloe vera has a good effect on oily skin so be sure to try it. It can remove the oily appearance of your skin and moisturize it. It can also prevent acne.

Fresh aloe vera can be used on your skin before you add a moisturizer and does not have to be rinsed off first. If you don’t want to use fresh aloe vera, try using soap or moisturizer containing aloe vera.

5. Scrubs and peels

Use a scrub once or twice a week. Try massaging your skin to stimulate blood circulation. Then clean you skin using a scrub or do a peeling.

The idea is to remove dead skin cells and excess oil to prevent acne and blackheads. Again, be sure to moisturize, avoiding sensitive areas around you eyes.

6. Facial masks

Try a face mask once a week. Best if you can prepare them at home yourself using natural ingredient. Some good ingredients include:

Kaolin clay is probably the best basic ingredient for a mask if you have oily skin. This clay cleanses the skin, absorbs fat and decreases the pores

Oatmeal with its polyunsaturated fats is goodCitrus juices are excellentStrawberries are astringent and prevent greasy skin7. Eat right

If you notice any food adding to your oily skin, it would be best to avoid it. It is important to eat nutritious food. Omega-3 fats are important. It could be an idea to try a supplement for a few months and evaluate the result. Personally I only use krill oil which is superior to fish oil.

For some people a lack of vitamin B, especially B2, can cause skin problems.

8. Exercise

Physical exercise is beneficial for your whole body and also your skin. If you have oily skin you might get skin irritation when exercising because of sweat and open pores. It can aggravate your problems. Try using a strong tea made of chamomile or red tea, rooibos. Put it on the irritated areas.

Just be careful not to touch or rub your irritated skin too much. Try preventing these problems using moisturizers before exercising. After exercise wash with a mild soap and again use a moisturizer.

9. Relax, avoid stress

A high level of stress can cause skin to become irritated and your glands to produce a more greasy skin. Try your best to avoid stress, or try at least to control it.

Most exercises are excellent ways to relief stress. Massage is also good.

10. Herbs

Many herbs can be used to prevent oily skin. Strong tea made from chamomile, rosemary, or melissa can have a very good effect.

Chamomile can have a calming effect; it also inhibits bacteria growth and inflammation. Melissa is antiseptic but makes your skin feel fresh. Rosemary inhibits the growth of bacteria and prevents oily skin.

Conclusion:

As you can see from the above, homemade recipes for glowing skin works much better than the commercial products you find in most shops. Use this insight to create your own superior skin care routine and become a natural beauty.

What is a good face wash for men that treats oily skin and acne?

Question by nachomanfork: What is a good face wash for men that treats oily skin and acne?
My skin is really oily. It’s nasty. I also have A LOT of blackheads and pimples. More blackheads then pimples. Any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by reddhotz2000
the #1 suggestion is to see a dermatologist and get on the meds needed to treat your acne. They usually will give you samples of some of the skin cleansers, and one of them is Neutogena’s Foaming Face Cleanser with a pump bottle so that it stays clean and not contaminated. They will also give you other meds to get rid of the blackheads and then to exfoiliate your skin, too. It’s money well spent and the acne will go away.
