First Aid Kit for Oily Skin

Article by Ken Silvers

Oily skin actually has some advantages even though it might bother you. These tips will help you to have healthy and beautiful skin without having to use expensive, synthetic products that only give a temporary improvement.

Homemade recipes for glowing skin are very simple and work on all skin types. Here we will focus on oily skin. Oily skin isn’t a disease; it’s just your microscopic glands producing a little too much sebum (an oily/waxy matter). Because of this your skin tends to get shiny and oily, perhaps with black pores or acne.

Actually the oily skin is an effective protection and does not age as fast as dry skin. It therefore stays smooth longer. But it can also cause some discomfort and I hope these steps will provide ideas how you can prevent this.

1. Avoid drying out your skin

If you do your skin will defend itself by producing an even more fat (lipids) that causes your oily skin. Some people thus create a vicious circle–they fervently remove excess grease thereby stimulating their glands to produce even more sebum. An important step is therefore to avoid everything that will dry out your skin.

Be careful with soaps, toners and other products that could add to your problem.

Sometimes you want to get rid of your oily skin fast and you might be tempted to use a toner containing alcohol. This is not advisable! Instead, use a gentle toner that does not dry out your skin.

Try using facial masks with strawberries, lemon juice or grape juice. Egg whites are also great in masks to remove oily skin. Homemade recipes can create glowing skin.

Baths and showers can dry out your skin, so care should be taken not to make your skin feel threatened and thus stimulated to produce more oil on your skin. Try adding a little olive oil in your bath to compensate for this.

2. How to clean your skin

Wash your skin with a gentle soap. Make sure it has a low pH (4,4-5,5) and will not make your skin dry. They should contain some moisturizing ingredient.

Soaps containing lactic acid are a good choice because…

Lactic acid dissolves the fat on your skinIt feels like you are peeling as the acid dissolves blackheadsThe sour acid is antibacterial thus preventing acne3. Moisturize, Moisturize, MoisturizeDo not use fatty creams as they will clog your pores. That includes mineral oils and paraffin.

Instead, use a fat-free moisturizing cream or gel. If you moisturize your skin it will not think it’s under attack. On the contrary, your skin loves moisturizers. Using them often will get you a smooth skin and pores that stay open.

4. Aloe vera

Aloe vera has a good effect on oily skin so be sure to try it. It can remove the oily appearance of your skin and moisturize it. It can also prevent acne.

Fresh aloe vera can be used on your skin before you add a moisturizer and does not have to be rinsed off first. If you don’t want to use fresh aloe vera, try using soap or moisturizer containing aloe vera.

5. Scrubs and peels

Use a scrub once or twice a week. Try massaging your skin to stimulate blood circulation. Then clean you skin using a scrub or do a peeling.

The idea is to remove dead skin cells and excess oil to prevent acne and blackheads. Again, be sure to moisturize, avoiding sensitive areas around you eyes.

6. Facial masks

Try a face mask once a week. Best if you can prepare them at home yourself using natural ingredient. Some good ingredients include:

Kaolin clay is probably the best basic ingredient for a mask if you have oily skin. This clay cleanses the skin, absorbs fat and decreases the pores

Oatmeal with its polyunsaturated fats is goodCitrus juices are excellentStrawberries are astringent and prevent greasy skin7. Eat right

If you notice any food adding to your oily skin, it would be best to avoid it. It is important to eat nutritious food. Omega-3 fats are important. It could be an idea to try a supplement for a few months and evaluate the result. Personally I only use krill oil which is superior to fish oil.

For some people a lack of vitamin B, especially B2, can cause skin problems.

8. Exercise

Physical exercise is beneficial for your whole body and also your skin. If you have oily skin you might get skin irritation when exercising because of sweat and open pores. It can aggravate your problems. Try using a strong tea made of chamomile or red tea, rooibos. Put it on the irritated areas.

Just be careful not to touch or rub your irritated skin too much. Try preventing these problems using moisturizers before exercising. After exercise wash with a mild soap and again use a moisturizer.

9. Relax, avoid stress

A high level of stress can cause skin to become irritated and your glands to produce a more greasy skin. Try your best to avoid stress, or try at least to control it.

Most exercises are excellent ways to relief stress. Massage is also good.

10. Herbs

Many herbs can be used to prevent oily skin. Strong tea made from chamomile, rosemary, or melissa can have a very good effect.

Chamomile can have a calming effect; it also inhibits bacteria growth and inflammation. Melissa is antiseptic but makes your skin feel fresh. Rosemary inhibits the growth of bacteria and prevents oily skin.

Conclusion:

As you can see from the above, homemade recipes for glowing skin works much better than the commercial products you find in most shops. Use this insight to create your own superior skin care routine and become a natural beauty.
