Most unique mineral foundation I’ve tried!, March 9, 2011
    By

I recently purchased Revlon ColorStay Aqua Mineral Makeup and I am not disappointed.

Although I hesitated to buy yet another mineral makeup, I found it difficult to resist its intriguing claims of coconut water as an ingredient. It was the perfect time for me to buy not only because it was on sale at my local CVS, but it had a $2-off coupon attached. I ultimately spent less than $6 on it.

The packaging is compact and easy to travel with. The sifter allows a fair amount of product to go on the lid, yet it’s no hassle to tap any excess product back into the base.

The included brush is soft and supple and is conveniently located in the lid, however my preference is to use a full-size powder brush to apply my minerals.

I am enchanted by the feel of this product. Never before have I applied a dry mineral foundation to my face and have it feel moist while actually still being dry. It’s a challenging sensation to describe. It’s cooling, soothing, refreshing, but it is not a liquid. It feels weightless and does not settle into fine lines, nor exaggerate dry patches like other mineral foundations I’ve used. My skin looks smooth and more even-toned and feels hydrated.

Coverage is light-to-moderate, depending on how heavy your hand is while applying the product. There is an extremely subtle luminescence to the product, but don’t confuse that with shine or glitter. It is more noticeable in the container than it is on one’s face.

Naturally, I do end up with some shine on my T-zone as the day progresses, but who doesn’t? That’s when blotting papers come in handy.

Mineral makeup can be a very divisive product. People tend to either love it or hate it. I suspect that if you love it, you will also love this. If you hate it, give it one more chance. This just might be the product that turns you into a lover!

Great Foundation, Only One Common Flaw, December 5, 2011

I tried this foundation because I love mineral foundations and had been using Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals for years. I wanted something that worked and that was more economical. At less than half the price of Bare Escentuals, this foundation delivers and is better. For those who are reading this and want to gauge whether they think this will help them, my personal info is as follows: I am 44 years old, caucasian, use the medium color of this product, have combination skin but no real blemishes or acne to speak of, and I have mild to medium brown spotting on my face, probably as a result of the normal aging process.

I find the sensation of this makeup to be quite interesting. It looks like a powder and shakes in the container like a powder, but feels “wet” when you actually put it on. It covers all my spots and gives me a very nice consistent complexion. Also, I have found that this product does not rub off onto my cell phone or clothing, and every other mineral foundation I have used has done this. Maybe that is what the aqua part adds to the product.

Here is the one flaw and why I took one star away: Like others have stated, I do not like the fact that you cannot take the lid off this jar and use the product down to the last drop. It only has the holes on the top and you must shake the product out. THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING TO ME, and yet, it seems to be the direction that all mineral foundation packaging is going in. Why this is, I will never know, so if anyone out there actually works for one of these companies, can you post a reply as to why this is? Better yet, pass it on to your management that we hate not being able to use all of the product that we paid for. To see a future change in this packaging would be tremendously satisfying, otherwise, this is a 5-star product.
