Good alternative to a spa facial – but some tips,
I usually have facial peels done at my friend’s spa, but this is a lot cheaper so I tried it. The results are pretty close to an expensive treatment, so I give it a big thumbs up. I had more redness and burning with the home treatment, but that could be because I am not a professional. My skin was smoother and fresher after, and I am very happy with the results and even happier with the price. I do have recommendations that come from having the professional treatments.
First, more is not better. This is taking off layers of skin, exposing newer skin. I don’t recommend doing this more than every 6-8 weeks (the spa says no more than 3-4 times a year), so your skin can recover before you ‘attack’ it again. Also, go easy on the scrub. You will be applying the peel chemicals after it, so if you rough up your skin too much with the scrub, you could have a harsher reaction to the peel. I did this the first time and I suffered a bit after the whole treatment. Also, this does not clean out pores, it just peels off skin. So if you have blocked pores, blackheads, etc., a clay mask may be better. If you have serious acne, best to go for other treatments. From what I understand a peel can make your acne problem much worse. This may not be as intense as a spa treatment, but if you have a skin condition, acne/sensitivity/eczema, etc., I recommend testing it on a small area before you put it all over your face.
A peel is not the end of your treatment. You have to have really good skin care products to keep your skin hydrated and healthy while it recovers from the peel, so those lines and dark spots you want to get rid of will stay away. My skin is a bit sensitive after the peel so I experimented with a number of moisturizers until I found one that does the best job. When I used cream after the peels, my skin looked fabulous – baby soft, firm, brighter and the lines and dark spots on my skin kept fading even more in between the peels. Not only did it help me get the most out of the peel, using it every night increased the results. Since it contains oil, it takes a few minutes to absorb (it absorbs faster on warm skin, so after a shower is good). I am down to the slightest of forehead lines and barely any crows feet, and practically no lines around my mouth. I saw immediate results from the combination of the peel and cream with softer skin that stayed soft all day, but as time went on, the results just kept getting better and my skin is younger and healthier than it’s ever been.

Olay knows how to make skin care products. The peel does precisely what it’s intended to do. It clears my face, gives me a fresh look. I’m thrilled right after I take it off. But it’s a chemical peel- by the next day, I feel dry. The product works, it really does, but it doesn’t provide enough moisture for my skin to keep it glowing after the peel process settles. The solution to that problem? I tried all kinds of creams- they left me feeling heavy. My friend recommended a retinol cream which I fell in love with -. I like to keep as light and natural as possible, and it seems to do the trick. There are tons of options out there but if you’re like me and you like to go 100% natural, then here’s my suggestion: Retinol Cream (Vitamin A) – 2 oz. + FREE St. Ives Renewing Collagen Elastin Advanced Body Moisturizer Gift Set. Its a thick cream but still absorbs really good so I’m not constantly reapplying. It keeps my skin healthy and glowing after using the peel and each day until I decide to peel again. I’m not flaky or strained anymore after using it. My hands don’t get greasy and my pores aren’t clogged either.

Buy this product and you will feel like you had a facial, seriously. I have used it twice and my skin felt ultra soft. This kit is easy to use, simply rub the crystals on your face for about 1-2 minutes. The crystals are like a salt scrub. Then put the peel serum directly on top of the crystals and rub for about 1 minute (it will feel warm on your skin). Then rinse throughly with warm water. Less than 5 minutes and you are finished! The kit looks like you could use it 10-20 times before running out. Be careful not to get it near your nostrils and eyes. After using this kit, my pores were less noticable and my skin wasn’t red like most products will do. For $30, it isn’t too expensive and you will actually save money by not going to a spa for a monthly facial.
