Question by Mandy: Is there a legit product for getting rid of acne and oily skin?
I’ve had mild acne and oily skin for a while now, and I’m absolutely sick of it. I’m wondering if there’s actually a product out there that will get rid of those things. If anybody has used products that have worked in the past, input would be greatly appreciated! If you could list the name/price/where to buy, that would be awesome.

I have heard proactiv works really well but it dries out your skin….also if you go to dermatologist they can prescribe you Epiduo cream which worked pretty well for me at keeping acne under control. Other than those ways….drink lots of water all day & regular exercise also helps with acne. Hope I helped 🙂

This is what I use:
Wash with African Black soap- I got mine from amazon, the one with shea butter in it.
Toner- I use plain ole witch hazel. It’s cheap, natural and found in the pharmacy.
Moisturizer- I use pure jojoba oil. Just a few drops. This replaces the skin oil you just washed away and tricks your skin into not making excessive oil.Â
Makeup- I use the Valley Girl foundation from L.A. Minerals. It soaks up oil, and has Allantoin to heal acne. I use a lot of their makeup cuz it’s natural and doesn’t irritate my skin.
For my T zone, I use L.A. Minerals Oil Control powder. It soaks up oil really well.

Acne along with oily skin is frustrating. I’m the same way – oily and acne prone. Everyone’s skin is different and everyone responds differently to treatments but your skin type sounds a lot like mine so here are some tips I found work for me.
Benzoyl Peroxide is actually great for keeping acne at bay – but what most people don’t realize is that you have to be consistent with it. Because it can be hard to the skin (causing redness and dryness), you have to know how best to use products that contain this ingredient. Find the product that works with your skin. There are a lot of different products that contain benzoyl peroxide: like “spot treatments”, face washes, and masks. Choose ONE to try – don’t buy a whole medicine cabinet full of products. There’s no need to use more than one product containing BP.
You should always start with the lowest dose available – usually 2.5%. See how this works first before you go to the 10% solutions. Use it every second day anywhere you usually have acne issues. Work up to using it once per day without any redness or dryness issues. Then, move to 2 times a day.
If your skin responds well to an application of 2 times a day at the 2.5% level, stay there – there’s no need to move up to the higher concentrations. If you have really oily skin, you can try the 5% solution. Most people don’t need to try the 10%. Stop use all together if you have any signs of a true allergy to it: burning, itching, swelling, etc.
Then, Maintain your fundamental skin care habit:
Wash your face twice a day
Exfoliate (for oily skin, you should exfoliate 3-5 times per week) Without exfoliating, the dead skin gets clogged in your pores causing more acne
Finally, moisturize, if needed. I don’t use a moisturizer because my skin is too oily.
Note: I would not use any acne product that contains alcohol (i.e. rubbing alcohol or witch hazel) because it can actually cause your skin to produce more oil which is the exact opposite of what you want.
Also, the only drawback to the benzoyl peroxide products is that it will bleach clothes and hair. If this is an issue, you can use salicylic acid but it is not as effective. However, if your acne is truly mild, it may work for you but again, you’d have to use it consistently. (Salicylic acid does not work for me.)
