Any ideas for how to get rid of oily skin?

Question by Brianna: Any ideas for how to get rid of oily skin?
So my skin is incredibly oily. I think its from all the times i dried it out trying to get rid of acne. So now, my skin looks really dry but its still oily. Like i can wash my face and within one hour its totally shiny and nasty. I put on tons of moisturizer at night and i wear makeup for ‘oily prone skin’.. nothing helps… any ideas? its a pain to have to deal with at school.

Wash it every morning and every night with a PLAIN soap – no oils, no fragrances. For me, Ivory soap is the best.

  1. Try this skin care routine:
    1) cleanse
    2) tone (use astringent)
    3) moisturize
Do this in the morning and at night. You can buy a line of products that is created for oily skin. That should help. If you have to put acne medicine on, spot treat where there is a breakout. Don’t put that stuff all over because it is very drying and it will irritate your skin further. I’d recommend that you do steps 1 and 2, then dab on acne medicine and wait at least 10 minutes before you moisturize. Don’t go overboard on the lotion. You just need enough to cover your face.
Also, to help with the oil during the day, I recommend that you use blotting papers. You can find them at stores like Ulta, Crabtree & Evelyn or the Body Shop. You just take a paper and blot them on your face. It really helps soak up oil and cut down on the shine. I keep them at work and in my purse b/c they always come in handy!! Plus they don’t cake on your face like pressed powder would and you throw the sheet away after use, so it doesn’t get all gunked up with bacteria.

    Hope this helps.
Oh and always drink lots of water and don’t touch or pick at your face. And 1-2 times a week, gently exfoliate your skin. I think the best and cheapest method is to use a washcloth with warm water (i.e. in the shower or something like that) and just gently rub all over your face in little circles to remove dead skin. Do your normal steps 1-3 after that and you are good to go!
